Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If selected for the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission. This fact sheet highlights some of the unique operational requirements and compensation plan.

Local Airport Details

• Location: Newark Liberty International Airport, Newark, NJ
• Maintains a 24/7 flight schedule with peak times from 5 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
• Screening operations are conducted inside and outside the terminal.

Work Schedules

• TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Specific shifts are assigned after successful completion of training.
• Employees are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.

Current Opportunities

• EWR is assessing candidates for full-time positions.
• 40 hours per week tour of duty. Shifts can be scheduled at any time during a 24-hour period.

Travel and Training Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing required training, which may involve up to six weeks of travel in full-time duty status.
