Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). As a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Lynchburg Regional Airport (LYH)
- Location: Lynchburg, VA
- Maintains a seven days per week flight schedule
- Peak Times:
- Monday through Sunday:
- 4 a.m. – 8 a.m.
- 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
- 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Screening operations are located inside the terminal and are temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Due to job nature, limited flexibility is offered for personal commitments.
- Specific shifts are assigned after successful training completion and are subject to periodic adjustments.
- TSA employees are emergency personnel and are expected to report during inclement weather.
Part-Time Positions
- 20 hours per week tour of duty
- Five (5) days of four (4) hours per day based on airport operational needs.
- FT/PT employees bid for shift times based on seniority.
Compensation
Sign-On Bonus: Not offered at this time. Recruitment Incentive amount is subject to change at the time of the final job offer.
Commuter Details
- Onsite parking for TSA employees is free.
- Public transportation available only by taxi; subsidies for transportation are not offered.

Promotional Potential
Under the career ladder system for TSOs, new officers have a path to reach up to a 67% increase from the starting base salary over 5 years, plus any federal-wide pay increases or changes to locality pay.
Travel and Training Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training. This may require up to six (6) weeks of full-time duty status travel.

TSO uniforms are provided, with restrictions on accessories and grooming.
