Transportation Security Officer Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in employment with the TSA. As a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Location: Salt Lake City International Airport, Salt Lake City, UT
- Operating Hours: 22 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Peak Times:
- Monday - Sunday: 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.
- Monday - Sunday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Work Schedules
TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays. Specific shifts are assigned after successful training and are subject to periodic adjustments to meet operational needs.
Shifts Available
Full-time and part-time positions available: 20-40 hours per week for four (4) to five (5) days, four (4) to five (5) hours per day.
Compensation
Sign-On Bonus: Not offered at this time. Recruitment incentive amount is subject to change and will be determined at the time of the final job offer.
Commuter Details
- Onsite parking available for $24.00 per month.
- Public transportation options available with subsidies offered at SLC.

TSOs have a career ladder system with potential salary increases up to 67% from the starting base salary over 5 years, plus any federal-wide pay increases.

- Dual Federal Employment policy limits the ability to work for multiple federal agencies.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training, which may require travel.
Dress Code
TSO uniforms are provided, with specific restrictions on accessories and grooming while in uniform.
