Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with TSA. If you successfully complete the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Location: Bemidji Regional Airport, Bemidji, MN
• Maintains a 24 hours a day, seven days per week flight schedule
• Screening operations may or may not be temperature controlled.

Work Schedules

• TSO work schedules are based on airport operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Due to the nature of the job, limited flexibility is offered to accommodate personal commitments or schedules.
• Specific shifts assigned after training and are subject to periodic adjustments.

Current Part-Time Shifts:

• 20 hours per week: Five (5) days of four (4) hours per day, during morning and afternoon hours.

Sign-On Bonus

Up to $2,000 for this duty location, paid out in two installments during the first 12 months of service. (Recruitment Incentive amount is subject to change.)

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking available at no charge.
• Public transportation not available.
• No transportation subsidies offered.

Promotional Potential

Under the career ladder for TSOs, new officers have a path to increase up to 67% from the starting base salary over 5 years.

Travel and Training Requirements

• Employment contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training.
• Minimum of three (3) weeks of travel in full-time duty status may be required.

Dress Code

TSO uniforms provided; restrictions apply to accessories and grooming.

Active Duty Military

Must be discharged or on terminal leave pending separation before beginning employment with TSA.
