Transportation Security Officer Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you successfully complete the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Maintains a seven days per week flight schedule.
- Peak times: Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Screening operations are located inside the terminal and may not be temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Specific shifts are assigned after new hires complete their training.
- No flexibility is offered for personal commitments.
- TSA employees are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.
Positions Available
- Full-Time: 40 hours per week
- Part-Time: 20 hours per week (Five days of four hours per day)
- Morning and afternoon shifts available.

Dual Federal Employment
TSA limits the ability to work for multiple federal agencies at the same time. Consult with airport HR staff for more information if applicable.
Travel and Training Requirements
Employment with TSA is contingent upon successfully completing required training. Initial training may require travel away from your airport and can last up to six weeks.
Dress Code
TSO uniforms are provided, with restrictions on certain accessories and grooming while in uniform.
