Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with the TSA. If you successfully complete the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Location: Delta County Airport, Escanaba, MI
• Maintains a sixteen (16) hour, seven (7) days per week flight schedule.
• Peak times:
  • Monday through Friday: 4 a.m. – 6 a.m.
  • 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Reduced hours on Saturday and Sunday, with peak hours between 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Screening operations are located inside the terminal and may or may not be temperature controlled.

Work Schedules

TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays. Please note:

• Limited flexibility to accommodate personal commitments.
• Specific shifts assigned after training, subject to periodic adjustments.
• TSA employees are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.

Part-Time Positions

• 20 hours per week
• Four (4) with five (5) hours per day
• Morning and afternoon shifts; split shifts may be required.

Sign-On Bonus

This location is not offering a sign-on bonus at this time.

Commuter Details

• Free onsite parking for TSA employees.
• No public transportation available; transportation subsidies not offered.

Promotional Potential

New TSOs can see up to a 67% increase in base salary over 5 years, on top of federal-wide pay increases or locality pay changes.

Travel and Training Requirements

• Employment contingent on completing required training.
• Minimum of three (3) weeks of travel may be required for New Hire training.

Dress Code

TSO uniforms provided; restrictions apply on certain accessories and grooming while in uniform.
