Transportation Security Officer (TSO) Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you successfully complete the TSO candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Airport: Dane County Regional Airport, Madison, WI
- Flight Schedule: Seven (7) days per week operating between 4 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
- Screening operations may or may not be temperature controlled. Hours of operations may be subject to change.
Work Schedules
TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include:
- Non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Specific shifts are assigned after training and are subject to change. TSA employees are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.
Full-Time Position Shifts
- Tour of Duty: 40 hours per week
- Shifts may include irregular hours, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Sign-On Bonus
This location is not offering a sign-on bonus at this time.
Recruitment Incentive amount is subject to change and will be determined at the time of final job offer.

Promotional Potential
Under the career ladder system for TSOs, new officers have a path to reach up to a 67% increase from the starting base salary over 5 years, in addition to federal pay increases.
Commuter Details
- Onsite parking is available for TSA employees.
- A parking pass costs $5.00 per year, paid by the employee.
Travel and Training Requirements
If hired by TSA, your employment would be contingent upon successfully completing required training. A minimum of three (3) weeks of travel may be required for TSA's New Hire training.
Dress Code
TSO uniforms are provided, with restrictions on certain accessories and grooming while in uniform.
