Transportation Security Officer Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you successfully complete the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Location: Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field, Boise, ID
- Flight Schedule: Seven days per week, 4 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
- Screening operations may or may not be temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
- TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Specific shifts are assigned after training and may change based on operational needs.
Part-Time Positions
Currently assessing candidates for part-time positions: 16-32 hours per week, four (4) to five (5) days of four (4) to (8) hours per day.
Sign-On Bonus*
The Transportation Security Administration is currently offering a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 for this duty location; paid out in two installments during the first 12 months of service.
Recruitment Incentive amount is subject to change and will be determined at the time of the final job offer.
Commuter Details
- Onsite parking is available for TSA employees free of charge.
- Public transportation is not available.
- Subsidies for transportation are not offered at BOI.

Successful candidates must complete required classroom and on-the-job training, which may involve substantial travel. TSO uniforms are provided, but there are restrictions on certain accessories while in uniform. Active duty military personnel must be discharged before beginning employment with TSA.
