Transportation Security Officer (TSO) Job Overview

If selected for the TSO position, you will support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission by protecting the nation’s transportation systems. This fact sheet highlights the unique operational requirements and compensation plan for TSOs at Eugene Airport (EUG).

Local Airport Details

• Flight Schedule: 17 hours a day, seven days a week.
• Peak Times:
  • Monday to Sunday: 4 a.m. – 7 a.m.
  • 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• Screening Operations: Located inside the terminal and may not be temperature controlled.

Work Schedules

• TSO schedules are based on operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Due to the nature of the job, flexibility for personal commitments is limited.
• Specific shifts are assigned post-training and may adjust periodically.

Part-Time Positions

• Tour of Duty: 20 hours per week
• Shifts: Five (5) days of four (4) hours during morning, afternoon, and evening.

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking available for TSA employees at $10 per month.
• Public transportation is not available, and transportation subsidies are not offered at EUG.

Required Training and Dress Code

• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required classroom and on-the-job training, which may require travel.
• TSO uniforms will be provided. There are restrictions on accessories and grooming while in uniform.

Active Duty Military

If you are currently on active military duty or a reservist, you must be discharged or on terminal leave before beginning employment.
