Transportation Security Officer Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). As a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Location: Helena Regional Airport, Helena, MT
- Operating Schedule: 16 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Peak Times:
- Monday through Sunday:
- 4:30 a.m. – 6:30 a.m.
- 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Monday through Sunday:
- Screening operations take place inside the terminal and may or may not be temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport:
- Non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays may be required.
- Specific shifts are assigned after training and are subject to periodic adjustments.
- Part-time Positions:
- 25 hours per week (five days, five hours each).
Note: TSA employees are considered emergency personnel and must report for duty during inclement weather.
Sign-On Bonus
Currently, this location is not offering a sign-on bonus.
Commuter Details
- Onsite parking is available at no charge for TSA employees.
- Public transportation is not available.
- No transportation subsidies offered.

Travel and Training Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing required training, which may include a minimum of three weeks of travel in full-time duty status.
Dress Code
Uniforms will be provided, and specific restrictions apply regarding accessories and grooming.
Active Duty Military: Active duty military personnel must be discharged or on terminal leave before beginning employment with TSA.
