Transportation Security Officer (TSO) Job Overview
Thank you for your interest in a position with the TSA. If you successfully complete the TSO candidate evaluation process and are selected, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Location: Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport, Moselle, MS
- Flight Schedule: 15-hour day from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
- Peak Times:
- 5 a.m. – 7 a.m.
- 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Screening operations are located inside the terminal and may not be temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
- TSO work schedules are based on airport operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Specific shifts will be assigned after training and are subject to change.
- TSA employees are emergency personnel and must report for duty during inclement weather.
Part-Time Positions
- Tour of Duty: 20 hours per week
- Shifts: Five (5) days of four (4) hours per day during morning and afternoon hours, including split shifts.
Sign-On Bonus
Currently, there is no sign-on bonus offered for this position.
Commuter Details
- Parking: Onsite parking is available for TSA employees free of charge.
- Transportation: Public transportation is not available, and transportation subsidies are not offered at PIB.

Promotional Potential
New officers can achieve up to a 67% increase in base salary over five years, plus additional federal-wide pay increases or changes to locality pay.
Training Requirements
If hired, employment is contingent upon successfully completing required training. This includes:
- Up to six weeks of full-time duty status travel for New Hire training away from your airport of record.
- Paid for compensable hours and reimbursed for authorized travel expenses per TSA Travel Policy.
Dress Code
TSO uniforms are provided, with specific restrictions on accessories and grooming.
