Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with the TSA. As a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Location: Fairbanks International Airport, Fairbanks, AK
• Flight Schedule: 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
• Peak Times:
  • 4 a.m. – 9 a.m.
  • 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • 9 p.m. – 1:30 a.m.

Work Schedules

• TSO schedules are based on airport operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Full-time: 40 hrs. per week
• Part-time: 20 hrs. per week
• Specific shifts are assigned after training and are subject to periodic adjustments.

Compensation

• Sign-On Bonus: Currently not offered.
• Recruitment incentive amounts are subject to change at the time of the final job offer.

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking available for $25.00 per month.
• Public transportation is not available, and transportation subsidies are not offered.

Promotional Potential

Under the career ladder system for TSOs, new officers have a path to reach up to a 67% increase from the starting base salary over 5 years, in addition to any federal-wide pay increases.

Travel and Training Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training, which may include up to six weeks of travel in a full-time duty status.

Dress Code

TSO uniforms are provided, and there are restrictions on accessories and grooming while in uniform.
