Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with TSA. As a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Location: Watertown Regional Airport, Watertown, SD
• Flight Schedule: Seven days a week, with peak times Monday through Sunday: 5 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Shifts: Morning, afternoon, and holiday shifts. Screening operations may be inside the terminal and may not be temperature controlled.

Work Schedules

• Part-Time Split Shift Positions: 20-30 hours per week, three to five days of approximately six hours per day. Shifts are mornings or afternoons.
• Flexibility: Due to the nature of the job, virtually no flexibility is offered. Specific shifts assigned after training are subject to periodic adjustments. TSA employees are emergency personnel required to report during inclement weather.

Sign-On Bonus

The TSA is currently offering a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 for this location, paid out in two installments during the first 12 months of service.

Promotional Potential

Under the career ladder system for TSOs, new officers can reach up to a 67% increase from the starting salary over 5 years.

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking is available for TSA employees free of charge.
• No public transportation available to the airport. Transportation subsidies are not offered.

Travel and Training Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training, which may require travel in a full-time duty status for a minimum of three weeks.
