Job Overview: Transportation Security Officer (TSO)

Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you successfully complete the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) candidate evaluation process, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Airport: Kona International Airport
• Location: Kailua-Kona, HI
• Flight Schedule: 18 hours per day, seven days per week.
• Peak Times: Monday through Sunday:
  • 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.
• Screening Operations: Located inside the terminal and may or may not be temperature controlled.

Work Schedules

TSO work schedules are based on operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of the job, there is virtually no flexibility to accommodate personal commitments or schedules.

Part-Time Positions Available

• Hours: 25 - 40 hours per week
• Shifts: Five (5) days per week at five (5) to eight (8) hours per day during morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

Sign-On Bonus

TSA is currently offering a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 for this duty location, paid out in two installments during the first 12 months of service.

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking available for TSA employees at $28.00 per year.
• Public transportation not available.
• Transportation subsidies not offered at KOA.
