Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If selected for the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Airport: Valdez Pioneer Field Airport (VDZ)
• Location: Valdez, AK
• Operational Schedule: Seasonal, dependent on airport operations
• Working Conditions: Screening operations may not be temperature controlled

Work Schedules

• Shifts may include non-traditional hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Due to the nature of the job, flexibility to accommodate personal commitments is limited.
• Specific shifts are assigned after training and are subject to change based on operational needs.
• Employees are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.

Part-Time Positions

VDZ may assess candidates for part-time positions with a tour of duty up to 25 hours per week, typically consisting of five (5) hours scheduled per day.

Compensation and Benefits

• Sign-On Bonus: Currently not offered; subject to change upon the final job offer.
• Competitive Salaries: Opportunities for salary increases over five years, potentially reaching a 67% increase from the starting base salary.

Commuter Details

• Parking: Onsite parking available at no charge.
• Public Transportation: Not available; transportation subsidies are not offered.

Additional Information

• Travel and Training Requirements: New hires must successfully complete required training, which may include travel away from the airport of record.
