Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with the TSA. If selected for the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission. This fact sheet highlights some of the unique operational requirements and compensation plans.

Local Airport Details

• Airport: Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport
• Location: Bowling Green, KY
• Operation: 24 hours a day, seven days per week flight schedule

Work Schedules

• TSO work schedules are based on operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• There is virtually no flexibility for personal commitments or schedules. Specific shifts are assigned after training and are subject to adjustments.
• TSA employees are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking is available for TSA employees free of charge, with bus shuttle service.
• Public transportation to the airport is available; however, subsidies for transportation are not offered at BWG.

Promotional Potential

New officers have a path to a 67% increase from the starting base salary over 5 years.

Travel and Training Requirements

If hired, your employment will be contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training. A minimum of three (3) weeks of travel in a full-time duty status may be required to complete TSA's New Hire training.

Dress Code

TSO uniforms are provided, and there are restrictions on certain accessories and grooming while in uniform.
