Transportation Security Officer (TSO) Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in a career with TSA. If you successfully complete the TSA candidate evaluation process and are selected for the TSO position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Location: Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Minneapolis, MN
• Operating hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• Peak times:
  • 3 a.m. – 8 a.m.
  • 1 p.m. – 8 p.m.
• Screening operations are located inside the terminal and may not be temperature-controlled.

Work Schedules

TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of the job, there is virtually no flexibility to accommodate personal commitments. Specific shifts are assigned and may be adjusted per operational needs.

Employment Opportunities

• Full-time: 40 hours/week (5 workdays of 8 hours each)
• Part-time: 25 hours/week (5 workdays of 5 hours each)

Travel and Training Requirements

Employment with TSA is contingent upon successfully completing required classroom and on-the-job training. This includes a minimum of three weeks of travel in a full-time duty status may be necessary. The duration of training and travel may vary by duty location.

Dress Code

TSO uniforms are provided. There are specific restrictions on accessories and grooming while in uniform.
