Position: Transportation Security Officer (TSO)
Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you successfully complete the TSO candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.
Local Airport Details
- Location: Nome Airport, Nome, AK
- Schedule: 8 hours per day, 7 days per week
- Peak Times: Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
- Screening operations are located inside the terminal and may or may not be temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of the job, virtually no flexibility is offered to accommodate personal commitments or schedules.
Compensation
- Sign-On Bonus: Up to $10,000 for this duty location, paid in two installments during the first 12 months of service.
- Full-time: 40 hours per week (five 8-hour days)
- Part-time: 20-25 hours per week (five 5-hour shifts)

Promotional Potential
New officers have a path to reach up to a 67% increase from the starting base salary over 5 years, in addition to any federal-wide pay increases or changes to locality pay.

- Onsite parking available for TSA employees at no charge.
- Public transportation to the airport is not available; subsidies for transportation are not offered at this location.

Travel and Training Requirements
Employment with TSA is contingent on successfully completing required training. A minimum of three (3) weeks of travel in a full-time duty status may be required.
