Job Overview
As a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security's mission. This fact sheet highlights some of the unique operational requirements and compensation plan for this essential position.
Local Airport Details
- Airport: Rutland Southern Vermont Regional Airport (RUT)
- Location: Rutland, VT
- Flight Schedule: Open to close, seven days per week.
- Screening Operations: Located inside the terminal, may not be temperature controlled.
Work Schedules
- TSOs work schedules are based on the airport’s operational needs and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Part-Time Positions Available:
- 20 hours per week / 40 hours in a two (2) week pay period.
- Five workdays with eight hours each; shifts are from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. (split shifts include a three-hour break).
Compensation
Currently, there is no sign-on bonus offered at this location. Comprehensive benefits package including competitive salaries.

Promotional Potential
New officers can achieve a salary increase of up to 67% from the starting base salary over five years, in addition to any federal-wide pay increases or changes to locality pay.
