Transportation Security Officer Job Overview

Thank you for your interest in employment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). If you successfully complete the Transportation Security Officer (TSO) candidate evaluation process and are selected for a position, you will play a vital role in supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mission.

Local Airport Details

• Airport: Hollywood Burbank Airport
• Location: Burbank, CA
• Flight Schedule: 18.5 hours a day, seven days per week
• Peak Times:
  • Monday through Sunday: 5 a.m. – 9 a.m., 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Work Schedules

TSO work schedules are based on the operational needs of the airport and may include non-traditional shifts, weekends, and holidays. There is virtually no flexibility offered to accommodate personal commitments or schedules. Specific shifts are assigned after new hires successfully complete their training.

Note: TSA employees are considered emergency personnel and are expected to report for duty during inclement weather.

Currently, we are assessing candidates for part-time positions:

• Hours: 20 hours per week
• Schedule: Five days of four hours per day (morning, afternoon, and evening shifts).

Sign-On Bonus

This location is not offering a sign-on bonus at this time. Recruitment incentive amounts are subject to change and will be determined at the time of final job offer.

Commuter Details

• Onsite parking is available for TSA employees for free.
• Public transportation is available, with subsidies for public transportation offered at BUR.

Promotional Potential

New officers have a path to achieve a salary increase of up to 67% from the starting base salary over 5 years, in addition to any federal-wide pay increases or changes to locality pay.

Dress Code

TSO uniforms are provided, with specific restrictions on accessories and grooming while in uniform.

Dual Federal Employment

TSA’s policy limits the ability to work for multiple federal agencies simultaneously.
