Magnum Helicopters is Hawaii’s premier doors-off helicopter tour company, offering thrilling 50-minute aerial adventures over Oahu’s breathtaking landscapes, from Waikiki Beach to Sacred Falls and Pearl Harbor. Our iconic MD500 helicopters, featured in the Magnum P.I. television series, are paired with an unforgettable theme that includes the actual Magnum P.I. Ferrari 308GT on display in our hangar. We are seeking a skilled Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic to maintain our fleet and ensure the highest standards of safety and performance for our world-class doors-off experience.

Job Summary

The MD500 Helicopter A&P Mechanic will be responsible for performing maintenance, inspections, repairs, and alterations on our MD500 helicopter fleet. This role requires expertise in turbine-powered helicopters, a strong understanding of FAA regulations, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and take pride in supporting our unique Magnum P.I.-themed operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and Repairs:
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on MD500 helicopters, including airframe, powerplant, and associated systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and avionics issues to ensure aircraft airworthiness.
  • Conduct detailed inspections in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and FAA regulations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Magnum Helicopters’ safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logbooks, and documentation for each aircraft.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Maintenance to implement safety and quality assurance procedures.
  • Fleet Support:
  • Assist with pre-flight and post-flight inspections to ensure aircraft are tour-ready.
  • Support weight and balance calculations and adjustments for safe doors-off operations.
  • Coordinate with pilots and ground crew to address operational needs and resolve issues promptly.
  • Inventory and Tools:
  • Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies to support maintenance operations.
  • Maintain and organize personal and company-provided tools for efficient workflow.

Qualifications

  • Required Skills and Experience:
  • Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a helicopter mechanic, with specific experience on MD500 series helicopters.
  • Strong knowledge of turbine-powered helicopter systems, including Rolls-Royce 250-C20B engines.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and avionics systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, maintenance manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders or scaffolding, and maneuver in confined spaces.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Factory training or certification on MD500 helicopters.
  • Experience with doors-off helicopter operations or tour-related maintenance.
  • Familiarity with aviation maintenance software for record-keeping.
  • Previous experience in a Part 135 or tour operator environment.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a hangar and on the tarmac at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Honolulu.
  • Exposure to noise, varying weather conditions, and helicopter operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed to support tour schedules.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
