Universal Flight Training, a premier aviation training provider based in *Sarasota, Florida*, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated *Director of Maintenance* to lead our maintenance operations. The ideal candidate will bring at least *6 years of general aviation experience*, hold a valid *FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license* with *Inspection Authorization (IA)*, and have a *clean FAA violation history*. *Experience with Cirrus aircraft* is strongly preferred. This role requires a proactive leader with outstanding *technical skills*, *customer service orientation*, and a commitment to *safety and reliability*. *Key Responsibilities:* * Direct and supervise all aircraft maintenance operations in accordance with FAA regulations and company standards. * Oversee maintenance schedules, inspections, and aircraft records to ensure maximum safety and availability. * Lead and develop a high-performing maintenance team, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement. * Serve as the primary point of contact for the FAA, vendors, aircraft owners, and internal departments. * Ensure all Universal Flight Training aircraft are maintained to the highest standard, with a special emphasis on *Cirrus Aircraft*. * Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in a timely, cost-effective manner. * Maintain accurate documentation and regulatory compliance, including AD research, service bulletins, and maintenance logs. * Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental safety regulations. * Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff, providing clear updates and maintaining a customer-first approach. * Coordinate with operations staff to minimize downtime and schedule aircraft availability effectively. *Qualifications:* * Minimum of *6 years of general aviation maintenance experience*. * Valid *FAA A&P certification* and current *Inspection Authorization (IA)*. * *No history of FAA violations*. * Strong preference for hands-on experience with *Cirrus Aircraft*, including G5/G6 models. * Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a maintenance environment. * Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. * Strong customer service mindset and ability to interface professionally with clients and staff. * Proficiency with maintenance tracking software and digital documentation platforms. * Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support flight training schedules. Our flight department operates and maintains a fleet of modern aircraft, including Gulfstream G500, Hawker 4000s, Pilatus PC24, and Bell 429. The successful applicant will report to the Director of Aviation and will need to reside in the general Redding, California area. The Director of Maintenance is responsible for the evaluation, performance, and management of maintenance for aircraft and base facilities. Provides professional recommendations associated with maintaining the aircraft and ensuring airworthiness. The Director of Maintenance also maintains current technical proficiency and education of aircraft and regulatory requirements. About the Position Conduct and lead all aspects of flight department maintenance for aircraft and base facility to ensure safe and productive environment Manage all maintenance activities of aircraft to ensure compliance, and maintenance requirements are met through appropriate standards, methods, and procedures Manage scheduling, certification, and all aspects of maintenance related to aircraft under Part 91 to ensure safe operational readiness of aircraft with as little schedule impact as possible Supervise, mentor, and train aircraft technicians and mechanics with focus on career development and long-term productivity Develop budget and outline/project costs related to aircraft maintenance operations, parts and labor, tooling, equipment, and base facilities Evaluate, manage, and approve expenditures related to aircraft and facility maintenance Conduct required aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs in-house when possible Oversee aircraft inspections and work completed at outside service centers Actively participate in the Safety Management System Professionally and effectively engage with FAA and other agencies to maintain respected partnerships Ensure complete and accurate records, including inspections, repairs and component changes, airframe flight time, engine times, service letters, FAA maintenances instructions Review and ensure all required entries into aircraft logbooks and permanent records are accurate and preserved in accordance with requirements Ensure compliance and respond appropriately with Airworthiness Directives and Service Bulletins affecting Flight Department aircraft Utilize a high level of interpersonal, problem-solving, and negotiating skills to effectively handle time sensitive and critical situations Establish contracts, publications, and subscriptions as necessary ensuring all required manuals to be utilized do remain current Qualifications FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) Certification preferred 3 years of maintenance management experience in a Part 91 or Part 135 environment Familiarity with FAA LOAs and MEL creation/management Demonstrated knowledge of planning, implementation, and direction of maintenance programs and control systems Extensive experience with computer-based aircraft recordkeeping Valid drivers license and clean driving record Willing to reside in the general Redding, California area Why Join Our Team?
