Aircraft Mechanic I - Engines
The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions rigs, repairs and modifies aircraft structure, structural components and aircraft systems, maintain and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneumatic, fuel system, ventilation, heating and cooling systems and mechanical components, applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation; applies technical knowledge to solve moderate problems. This worker reads and interprets manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and/or repair malfunctions in the aircraft engine, auxiliary power unit, anti-icing, and heating systems, and all other supporting engine systems.
  • Perform all APU, T56, and AE2100D3 engine maintenance to specified Air Force C-130 standards to include required engine removal and installation and functional tests.
  • Ability to perform all inspections, adjustments, alignments, rigging, and calibration of engine torques and related propeller components to achieve maximum operating efficiency.
  • Ability to inspect engines and APUs to determine and maintain serviceability.
  • Have knowledge of aircraft fuel and mechanical principles applicable to aircraft fuel systems.
  • Possess competent abilities in the use and application of hand tools, power tools, machines work stands, support equipment, and special tools/calibrated test equipment.
  • Possess the ability to read and interpret Air Force maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, diagrams, schematics, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Basic C-130J aircraft system knowledge
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical components with the ability to troubleshooting, adjust, repair and replace parts/components; requires broad working knowledge of C-130 aircraft systems to include hydraulics, structures, engines and electrical systems.
  • Mechanic must have basic knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, and dial indicators, micrometers and support equipment, powered and non-powered.
  • This mechanic must be proficient in the documentation of AFTO 781forms and the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS).
  • Incumbent must be able to prioritize workload to maintain the letter check schedule requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot engine malfunctions, adjust, repair, or replace electrical system wiring and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru flight, and basic post- flight maintenance inspections, perform as Refuel/Defuel, Jack and Tow Team Supervisor.
  • Individual will also be required to perform other miscellaneous aircraft servicing to include, but not limited to Lox, Hydraulic and Engine Oil, service aircraft tire and perform aircraft lubes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Security clearance
Desired skills:
  • Four (4) years of experience on C-130 or P3 aircraft, T-56 and/or AE2100D3 engine and 54H60-117 Hamilton Standard and/or R391 Dowty propellers.
  • Performed as 7-Level Aircraft Mechanic or equivalent Advanced Systems School.
  • Ability to perform on-aircraft engine runs (if required) to determine engine performance.
