Job Description

Summary
The Chief Inspector reports to the Site Manager and is directly in charge of the overall operation of the inspection department, and as such, they have the final authority in the releasing to service of wheels, brakes and their components. In addition, the Chief Inspector is responsible for direction, planning, and laying out the details of inspection standards, methods, and procedures used by the repair station by complying with all applicable federal aviation regulations, airworthiness directives, manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations, and air carrier’s specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Familiarity with obtaining the maintenance data required to be kept ensuring compliance with 14 CFR § 145.109(d).
· Responsible for the calibration program and ensures that the calibration procedure is properly followed.
· Ensures that any test equipment or tool used to make an airworthiness determination is appropriately labeled and within its calibration time limits.
· Responsible for the scrap program and ensures that the calibration procedure is properly followed.
· Establishes, implements, maintains and enforces the standards and system for ensuring that all receiving, preliminary, hidden damage, in-process and final inspections of articles undergoing maintenance, preventive maintenance or alteration are performed in accordance with the applicable maintenance data and the procedures in this manual.
· Determines whether an article should be reported under the suspected unapproved parts program and is responsible for filing reports under that program.
· Determines the final disposition for items that have exceeded allowable shelf-life limits, been exposed to unacceptable storage conditions or failed to meet incoming inspection.
· Determines whether the requested maintenance, preventive maintenance or alteration on articles received for work can be accomplished within the applicable maintenance data, despite any other damage or discrepancies noted.
· Determines when replacement data plates or identification labels are required.
· Determines how and when a hidden damage inspection will be accomplished on articles known to have been involved in an accident.
· Ensures that work performed on articles under the authority of the repair station is appropriately approved for return to service on the maintenance release (FAA Form 8130-3).
· Ensures that the maintenance data required to perform maintenance, preventive maintenance and alterations on the articles under the repair station’s certificate are issued to technicians and inspectors.
· Ensures that special instructions from air carrier customers are included in the maintenance data issued to technicians and inspectors.
· Ensures the technical data supporting major repairs and alterations is FAA-approved.
· Consults with the customer to make a major/minor determination, documents the analysis that supports that determination, and obtains approval of all major repairs/alterations.
· May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
· Working knowledge and understanding of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
· General understanding of NDT disciplines to include Magnetic Particle, Eddy Current, and Liquid Penetrant.
· Proficient on inspection techniques.
· Proficient in using the various types of tools, equipment and inspection equipment and visual inspection aids appropriate for the article being maintained, altered and/or inspected.
· Proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
· Detail oriented.
· Well-developed interpersonal skills and teamwork aptitude.
· Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Required Education and Experience
· High School Diploma or equivalent required.
· Minimum of five years of pertinent mechanical/inspection experience.
· NDT certification is a plus.
· FAA Airframe and Powerplant license and/or FAA Repairman license or ability to obtain a repairman license if not already certified.
· Must be appropriately certificated in accordance with 14 CFR Part 65.
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
