The Avionics Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the maintenance department and is responsible for training and assisting his subordinates in proper procedures, methods, and practices to be followed in each respective duty. All duties assigned to the Avionics Manager may be delegated to any qualified individual as is deemed necessary, however, such delegation does not constitute relief of responsibilities. *KEY RESPONSIBILITIES* *Supervision & Leadership:* * Lead, mentor, and manage a team of avionics technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality work. * Responsible for the daily maintenance and workflow of the technicians by prioritizing projects * Coordinate with Customers and fellow technicians to ensure timeliness of work completion. * Foster team camaraderie and a good working environment * Conduct regular team meetings to discuss safety protocols, work assignments, and ongoing projects. * Evaluate and monitor team performance, providing feedback and implementing corrective actions when necessary. * Has some authority on personnel actions * Additional responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by the Accountable Manager. This could include avionics related tasks and/or travel for field maintenance * The Avionics Manager is directly responsible to the Accountable Manager *Maintenance & Inspection:* * Oversee the inspection, repair, and maintenance of avionics systems, including communication, navigation, radar, and autopilot systems. * Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FAA regulations, company policies, and manufacturer guidelines. * Review and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to guide maintenance procedures. *Quality Control & Compliance:* * Develop and implement quality control procedures to maintain high standards of avionics system performance and reliability. * Quality Management – able to manage multiple projects at the same time * Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and certifications. * Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards. *Training & Development:* * Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for avionics technicians to enhance their skills and knowledge. * Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and regulatory changes to ensure the team is informed of new technologies and procedures. *Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:* * Diagnose and resolve complex avionics system issues in a timely and efficient manner. * Collaborate with other departments and external vendors to address and resolve technical challenges. *Inventory & Equipment Management:* * Manage the inventory of avionics parts and equipment, ensuring availability and proper storage. * Coordinate with the procurement team to order necessary parts and materials. *Experience:* * Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Avionics, Electronics, or a related field. Equivalent military or technical training may be considered. * FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification or equivalent is preferred * Minimum of 5 years of experience in avionics maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role. * In-depth knowledge of avionics systems, including communication, navigation, radar, and autopilot systems. * Experience with FAA regulations and compliance standards *Skills:* * Strong leadership and team management skills. * Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. * Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Attention to detail and a commitment to safety. *Other Requirements:* * Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends if necessary. * Ability to travel on occasion. * Ability to pass a background check and drug screening. * Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment and work in confined spaces. Determines methods and sequences for testing operations, selects and sets up test equipment, and records and evaluates results of such tests as required. Devises test apparatus for experimental laboratory testing and development programs, determines measurement standards, and makes sketches as required. Operates and tests the above Company-designed, customer, and purchased electronic and allied systems, including making microwave, radio frequency and dielectric measurements where test procedures have not been developed in order to verify the performance and characteristics of such systems, including their integration with allied systems. Adjusts and calibrates systems as required, repairs malfunctioning units discovered during test by removing and replacing faulty components such as resistors, capacitors, coils, vacuum tubes, transistors, and other solid state devices.
